Capturing the energy of SandPolo: Event photography and video for DAOU Wines
When a brand sponsors an event, the opportunity goes far beyond putting its name in front of an audience. It's about creating memorable experiences, connecting with people and capturing content that keeps the story going long after the event has finished.
That was the thinking behind our work for Californian wine brand DAOU Wines at SandPolo in Sandbanks, Dorset.
As a Bournemouth-based photography and videography team, we were commissioned to capture the brand's activation at this prestigious beachside event, document its sponsorship of the DAOU Daredevils riding team, and photograph the wider SandPolo experience. We also produced a hero video for DAOU's marketing team.
The result was a project that brought together event photography, brand storytelling and video production in one of Dorset's most distinctive event settings.
Event photography in Poole and Dorset: Bringing the brand to life
SandPolo combines the excitement of polo with a beachside setting, creating an event with a character all of its own. For a brand activation, that presents an opportunity to capture something more than the event itself: the atmosphere, the people, the setting and the brand's role within it.
Our approach to event photography is to look at the bigger picture while remaining alert to the smaller moments that make an occasion memorable.
For DAOU Wines, that meant capturing its activation stand, branded details and presence throughout SandPolo, alongside the action and atmosphere of the wider event.
These images help tell a more complete story of the brand's involvement. They show not only where the brand was present, but how it brought its sponsorship to life in front of an audience.
For businesses investing in sponsorships, exhibitions, product launches or corporate events, this kind of photography can provide valuable content for future marketing campaigns, social media, websites and internal communications.
Capturing the action: The DAOU Daredevils
One of the key elements of the project was DAOU Wines' sponsorship of the DAOU Daredevils riding team.
The equestrian action brought movement, spectacle and energy to the event, providing a different visual dimension to the brand activation itself.
Capturing this kind of activity requires an event photographer who can anticipate moments as they unfold, react quickly and balance the action with the wider context. The aim is to create a collection of images that feels dynamic while keeping the brand and its involvement central to the story.
For a sponsor, these photographs can be particularly valuable. They help connect the brand to the experience, giving the marketing team visual assets that communicate the excitement of the event rather than simply documenting that it took place.
It's this combination of action, atmosphere and brand-focused imagery that makes event photography such an important part of a wider sponsorship and marketing strategy.
More than photographs: Creating a hero video for DAOU Wines
Alongside the photography, we were commissioned to produce a hero video for DAOU Wines' marketing team.
Video offers another way to communicate the energy of a live event. While still photography can capture a defining moment, film can bring together movement, atmosphere and a sequence of experiences to create a more immersive sense of what it was like to be there.
For a brand activation like SandPolo, this creates an opportunity to tell a broader story: from the visual identity of the activation to the action in the arena and the overall character of the event.
Combining photography and videography also gives marketing teams greater flexibility when planning how to communicate a project across different channels.
A collection of photographs can support websites, press materials and social media, while a hero film can provide a more immediate way to showcase the experience and bring the brand's involvement to life.
By capturing both photography and video at SandPolo, we helped create a body of visual content for DAOU Wines' marketing team to use beyond the event itself.
Why professional event photography matters for brand activations
Whether a business is sponsoring a sporting event, exhibiting at a trade show or hosting a product launch, professional event photography helps turn a live experience into content that can continue working for the brand.
A well-planned approach can capture several important elements:
The brand experience: Activation stands, signage, products and branded environments.
The people: Guests, customers, teams, presenters and other key participants.
The action: Performances, demonstrations, sporting moments and other defining highlights.
The atmosphere: The details and interactions that communicate the character of the event.
The wider story: A visual record that shows how the event came together and what the brand contributed.
For marketing teams, the value is not just in having photographs of the day. It's in having a useful collection of content that can be repurposed across marketing, communications and social media.
Every event is different, so we work with clients to understand what matters most before the day. That helps us focus on the moments, people and details that best support their objectives.
Your event photographer and videographer in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset
At Clark Creative, we're storytellers. We help businesses and brands communicate through photography, video and content creation.
Based in Bournemouth, we work with clients across Poole, Dorset and further afield, capturing corporate events, brand activations, conferences, exhibitions and other occasions where the story matters as much as the event itself.
We understand that every project has different requirements. Sometimes the priority is comprehensive event photography. In other cases, a client needs a combination of stills and video to support a sponsorship, campaign or wider marketing activity.
Our approach is to create visual content with a purpose: imagery and film that capture the experience while giving marketing teams material they can use long after the event has ended.
The DAOU Wines project at SandPolo is a great example of how event photography and videography can work together to tell a brand's story.
